April D. Foster, after working with numerous art forms
throughout her life, finally came to the conclusion that portrait
painting is the artistic challenge she finds most intriguing. She
feels that "Capturing not only the likeness but the 'feeling'
as well of a human subject is one of the most satisfying experiences
I have come across." April paints both oil portraits and pastel
portraits. Her style, while certainly realistic, is not what one
would call "photographic", but rather a somewhat impressionistic
interpretation of her subjects' features and character.
Most of her portraits, corporate portraits and
family portraits alike, are painted from photographs that have been
taken by April herself for just that purpose, except, of course,
in the case of posthumous portraits. In order to create a more satisfying
and meaningful work of art, April encourages her clients to include
some uniquely personal element in the portrait, such as a favorite
toy, an award, a costume or setting suggesting a special interest,
or possibly a family heirloom.
